The plus size industry just got bigger and better and we owe this victory to Hispanic designer Atelier Patricia Rivera. She has been creating masterpieces that cater to both markets, straight size and plus. Her success has been non-stop in the last 20 years.
What is it about her Plus Size Collection that has everyone buzzing with praise? She understands the needs & desires of the Curvy woman and has found the balance to deliver the perfect dress. Most importantly, she is a Full-figured woman herself. She understands all to well the challenges we face as bigger women.
In the year 1994 she graduated from The Parsons School of Design. She freelanced for several fashion houses one in particular was The House of Yeohlee. In a short period of time she became assistant designer to a company on 7th avenue which specialized in ‘Suits & Dresses’.
She designed styles exclusively for high fashion labels like Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Lord & Taylor and Nordstorm. But there was a void within her and she wanted more involvement. This was the birth of her very first Collection called, ‘ Ready To Wear’ Camaleon. This collection was exclusively sold in several boutiques in Soho, New York City.
In 1998, she returned to her beautiful island of Puerto Rico and created her latest brand ‘Atelier’. Atelier Patricia Rivera has become a huge success. This collection is a variety of casual ,elegant mixed with cocktail dresses and red carpet gala designs. Many of her clients are celebrities that need those Gorgeous gowns to wear to award ceremonies & Hollywood parties.
She is currently one of the Top designers being featured in , ‘San Juan MODA’. The most anticipated Fashion event in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This will be the second time she gets chosen to participate in this high fashion Latino event.
Although she sells to both markets her Collection of plus sizes will be the one being featured in ‘San Juan, MODA’. This week the auditions for the curvy modeling community has been exciting & very promising. The local buzz are the announcements of the Models that were chosen by the designers and the production team. In social media sites all over Puerto Rico the models are sharing their good news. And some are devastated for not making the cut.
We are very proud of this brilliant designer and we want to wish her all the very best during her fashion presentation. We also will be sharing the images of that event in a future recap feature.
I had the pleasure of wearing some of the lovely gowns in her plus collection as she sponsored me for Fashion Week Brooklyn. Her gowns made me feel like Royalty and her fabrics are light and her color palette could make a rainbow jealous.
