Our lives are so busy with work, family, and other activities it seems like even though we try to make time to do things like our mothers and grandmothers did, things don’t always work out. In celebration of Women’s Inspiration month here at Curvy Magazine, I wanted to share with you a story about Debra Murray. Debra is from St. Petersburg, Florida and loves helping women love themselves through the art of Cooking. She has taken this love of cooking a step further by creating the Shaypron™. The Shaypron is an apron, flattering to all figures, stain-resistant, wrinkle-free and fashionable. It completely protects your clothes while you cook and a very nice accessory to your dress while you serve your delicious dinner.
I was in the kitchen the other day cooking dinner for my family and guests when I found myself spinning around as I had done as a little girl in my grandmother’ s kitchen. I had a bowl and a spoon and was preparing a recipe I had found on Debbie’s website “In the Kitchen With Debra Murray.” Playing in the background was Chaka Kahn’s song, “I’m Every Woman.” I was on top of the world and felt like I could cook for a king!
I first came across Debbie in Florida a couple of years ago at a school. She was the caterer of many events there including a Fundraiser that I attended. I will never forget her decadent desserts served in Martini glasses with little umbrella’s. How creative is that! I recently reconnected with her on Facebook where I found out about her Shaypron. I reached out to her to find out more about the Shaypron and her segment on Shop HQ.
In addition to telling me about her passion for helping women feel good about themselves, she shared some of her personal story. I was touched by how she had overcome pain and sadness from multiple family losses she had experienced in just a few short years. She has let her life’s experiences strengthen her faith and stretch herself to do more with her calling through her love for cooking. With the debut of the Shaypron she is also bridging the gap of Fashion Wear in the kitchen by offering an Apron that fits women of all sizes and also offers beautiful styles and designs. It’s definitely not the Apron with the little chickens and hens our mothers and grandmothers wore.
As a Wife, Mother, and Professional my days are always so busy and packed with things due last minute. I am so grateful to Debbie for the Shaypron and the way it made me feel and for the recipe that gave me the opportunity to create a decadent dish for my family and guests to enjoy. But most importantly, I am grateful to Debbie for the inspiration to keep stretching my own self so that my talents and gifts might help another woman out there to embrace and seek out her own gifts and talents to share for the entire world to see.
