Recognized as one of the most controversial talk shows around, The Ricki Lake Show was huge in the 90’s. It aired from 1993-2004 and brought new meaning to the word Drama. With everything from uncovering who was a baby’s father to husbands cheating with their wives family members, Ricki addressed it all. She also set a bar that made her one of the highest rated show in daytime television. She also caught the attention of her audience and kept them wanting more.
Well, after her great season on Dancing with The Stars last year, she announced that she was coming back to the place she loved so much: your living room. This time though, it will be much different than her previous talk show. She will be reaching women on a whole new level. It will be a show that will feature “elevated content for women 25-54”. If anyone can do it, she can. Ricki has truly lived with change and thrived. She was famous as a teen when director John Waters cast her in Hairspray (One of my all time favorite movies) as Tracey Turnblad, a plus size teen in the trying to be cast as a dancer on a television show in 1960’s America. It was a role that would make her a cult icon. Since then she was featured in a few more John Waters films as well as others and after dropping 140 pounds in her 20’s she went on to host The Ricki Lake Show. She is 43 now and wants to give women want they want and to share her experiences as a mother of two, a divorcee and someone who has lived to keep going and enjoy life. I am sure you are as excited as I am to see the new Ricki when she comes back in the fall. I am sure we will all have that old desire to cheer “GO RICKI” from our seats at home.
