Alright, now please don’t shoot the messenger (Sorry, totally lame joke!) but a day that either strikes fear (sometimes anger) or joy will be upon us in exactly a month. Yup, Valentine’s Day will soon be gracing the supermarket aisles and television ads with diamonds and roses will be appearing all of the time. Doesn’t matter how you’re spending it this year – everyone could use something to make them smile. So what should you do while waiting for the candy conversation hearts and Hallmark cards? Watch a movie of course! Here’s a list of romantic – in all of its forms – movies to get you in the spirit! And don’t forget my “tissue box rating” – one box = a few tears shed, two boxes = a good few moments of tears. And three boxes? Well, it’s pretty self-explanatory. 🙂
An all-star cast with an amazing plot that seems haphazard but fits perfectly. A total must-see to get started with your Valentine’s Day movie marathon.
I hope you didn’t think that this list would be complete without out the movie that most women love and men fear? The Notebook is nothing short of a classic romance story that is worthy of a “Three Tissue Box” rating.
No Strings Attached
“Friendship” + sex = (usually) a disaster. But luckily for us, Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman bring laughter and love to this usually chaotic equation.
An Officer and a Gentleman
Hands down one of the greatest movies of the ‘80s (and possibly, EVER) An Officer and a Gentleman has often been hailed as one of Richard Gere’s greatest movies. Talk about an amazing story of love triumphing over obstacles! This movie undoubtedly earns a “Two Tissue Box” rating.
It Happened One Night
A classic “Guy can’t stand gal (& vice versa) then “Guy can’t live without gal” story starring one our favorite leading men of all time – Clark Gable. It happened one night is a true cinematic (and romantic) gem.
The title describes it all – and a little more – in this romantic comedy starring Alec Baldwin, Meryl Streep and Steve Martin. This movie will leave you shocked – but for the best reasons! This movie earns a “One Tissue Box” rating.
Harry Connick Jr in tight jeans. Enough said. This movie earns a “One Tissue Box” rating.
Bed of Roses
Sometimes it takes a touch of trust and a secret admirer to get over past hurts. Bed of Roses – starring the always swoon worthy Christian Slater, is an awesome love story of what happens when you take a chance.
Something Borrowed (starring cinema favorites Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin) is a movie that shows what happens when life and love collide and leaves an interesting result. This movie earns a “Three Tissue Box” rating.
Crazy, Stupid Love
Ryan Gosling without his shirt. Does anyone even really need another reason to watch this movie? But this IS a total must see movie to get you in the Valentine’s Day spirit!
Well beautiful ladies, I hope these movies do one of two things (hopefully both): gets you in the mood for romance and ready for Valentine’s Day or the movies put a smile on your face and hope in your heart. Happy watching – from my heart to yours.
