Big Girls United (BGU) recently held a special showcase of their Spring 2011 ‘Chameleon’ Collection for customers, fans and supporters in Brooklyn, NY. If you are not familiar with BGU, the line is designed by two sisters, Jeannie Ferguson and Tasha Hill. BGU was created to celebrate curves and show women that color and patterns can be worn regardless of size. This contemporary, ready-to-wear line is aimed at the modern multifaceted woman that loves fashion.

The atmosphere was inviting and intimate which speaks to the key benefit of hosting a showcase; both designers remained completely accessible throughout the evening, mixing and mingling with guests. The party really got started when the models made their grand entrance. They came out as a group at specific intervals so that everyone could take a closer look at the garments. The pieces were all stunning and made from a variety of materials – from jersey to denim to leather. The collection oozed style and sex appeal without being overly trendy or vulgar. The styling, by Denardo Jenkins, was impeccable and accentuated the garments perfectly. Each look had a distinct makeup theme and hair style. There were modern pieces – such as the long harem pant coupled with a rocker chic leather jacket as well as practical pieces – like the long sleeve fitted surplice dress.

After speaking with both sisters, it was obvious that they have a balanced collaboration. Tasha’s conservative chic style mixed with Jeannie’s super sexy palette resulted in a cohesive collection that every woman can wear; each look can be dressed up or down. No need to choose between looks ladies; all of the pieces would work in any wardrobe. The design duo also hosted 2 dress giveaways in which one of the lucky winners was yours truly (yay!). This added to the excitement and demonstrated BGU’s commitment to their supporters. The collection is currently available for preorder and will fully debut in March 2011. You will see more body conscious dresses and separates coming from this design team very soon! Contact the ladies at
