We all have days where we drag ourselves out of bed in the morning and barely feel like putting on clothes, let alone spending lots of time putting together the perfect ensemble. And nothing in our closets feel quite as comfy as our PJs. So, the next time you don’t feel like squeezing into a spandex dress and 5 inch stilettos, consider opting for the pajamas instead. No need to check your glasses and read that again. Pajamas aren’t just for bed anymore. It’s a trend that is fresh off of the New York Fashion Week runways. Most celebrities aren’t even wearing them (in public) yet. However, this trend was featured all over the catwalk by designers like Hermes, Stella McCartney, Celine, Louis Vuitton and Jill Sanders. The always fashion forward and envelope pushing Rihanna has been talked about incessantly after being seen this Tuesday wearing a pair of Emilio Pucci pajamas to a movie premiere in Japan. However, this wasn’t the first time she stepped out in PJs (scroll down for pictures of her in London wearing a Stella McCartney pajama set). If you want to be on the cutting edge of fashion or prepare yourself ahead of time for when this trend hits streets near you in a few months, take heed to the tips below to make sure your PJs always look comfy and chic.

• Choose luxe fabrics. The thing that takes these PJs from house clothes to haute couture are vibrant colors, pretty prints, lace, silk, etc. Take a page from Rihanna’s fashion book and go with “dressier” fabrics when going out on the town in this look. Leave the rainbows and butterflies to the kids.

• Accessorize well. Another key way to make sure you successfully pull off this look is to wear the right enhancements. Heels are a must to take this look from drab to fab. Understated jewelry and a clutch or envelope purse are all you need to pull this outfit together.

• Wear a belted pajama top. One way of keeping this look from going grungy is to wear a pajama set with a belted waist. If you can’t find a pair you like with a belt, try to find options with seaming or darting that accentuate your curves.

• Keep it simple. Mixing and matching prints with PJs can make you look more crazy than chic.

Take a look at the pajamas worn by the celebrities below and tell me what you think. Do you like the look? Would you wear them in public? Or are Rihanna and others dead wrong for leaving the house in loungewear? Let me know!
