What a way to continue to support Black History Month after the appraised acting of Mary J. Blige and Angela Bassett in the Lifetime Original Movie “Betty&Coretta“. This years Superbowl XLVII had an all star black cast as well. Grammy award winning Alicia Keys did a very controversial rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner”, Beyonce killed the 7 minute half-time special, but the performance that touched almost every American heart was with Academy Award winning Jennifer Hudson!
Hudson performed “America The Beautiful” with Sandy Hook Elementary‘s choir as the opening act before Keys. This morning, she, alongside with musical mogul L.A. Reid, sat down with NBC‘s Today and discussed the performance which Jennifer described as “overwhelming” and emotional.
It was emotional. Just being there and seeing the kids. I mean, they’re close and it’s very close to home for myself as well. It was overwhelming. Before we sat in the room and I got to meet them and then we went over the song. That’s where I couldn’t get through the song because it was just overwhelming. Before we all went out, I hugged each and every one of them and then we prayed a little bit, and then we got out there.
Now remember that Hudson family was killed a few years back, making that performance with the school as very tough. Our hearts still go out to the victims families and friends in both awful situations.
