Dear Vonda,

I really hope you choose my letter because I seriously need your help with this.  My boyfriend and I have been together for a little over a year now and he’s the light of my life.  Just one issue…he jerks off all…the…time!  Now I get it, guys do it regularly but he does it constantly…in the morning, after lunch, after dinner, before bed and even when we are visiting other people’s houses (he disappears for a while). He’s not a creepy guy or a weirdo at all, otherwise I would have been gone by now.  I don’t have a problem with us doing it together during sex or while we watch dirty movies together, but all the time?  Wouldn’t it get raw at some point?  I have talked with him about it and he just tells me he likes how it feels and I should just relax.  I just want to know should I be worried about this behavior?  Am I just being too overly sensitive about it?

– Girlfriend of A Chronic Pickle Tickler

Dear Girlfriend of A Chronic Pickle Tickler,

No, I don’t think you’re being overly sensitive at all.  While it can be normal for a man to “crank the shaft” quite often doing it too much can signal an issue. Believe it or not, sometimes masturbating is less about sexual thoughts and feelings and more about anxiety. Many men, when they’re feeling stressed about work or home life, tend to masturbate as a way to relieve the tension and anxiety.  Like you said, you talked with him about it and he said to relax.  Unless this behavior is severely affecting him in social situations, hindering his life, job and well-being, I wouldn’t worry about it too much.  If you notice he is about to run off and do it after a stressful situation, try helping him talk about it and figure out a way to deal with it in a different way.

Of course, if you see that he is hurting himself and the behavior gets worse, I would suggest he sits down and talks with a professional.  Other than that, let the man “pump the python”…“tickle his pickle”… “wrestle the one-eyed trouser snake”!  (Couldn’t resist.)  Good luck!

P.S.  Too much friction can cause him to get a little raw, just make sure there’s a lot of lube available for him.  ;o)
