I don’t know about you, but my weight fluctuates. I’m not one who can eat whatever and let nature handle the rest. I have to work at my weight. Whether you want to tone, lose or maintain your weight, try any or all of these four suggestions:
Cardio. Keep your heart pumping and muscles working three to five times a week. One hour of brisk walking can burn 1,000 calories. If you’re a gym girl (I‘ve been occasionally) kickboxing and swimming are great! Jumping rope too. Jumping can melt away up to 1,000 calories. Cardio increases your lung capacity, reduces risk of heart attack, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes. It even reduces stress and helps you sleep better. Another activity is more intimate, but you get where I’m going with this…..
Channel surfing (TV/DVD). Not sitting and watching, but working with it. You name it, it’s out there: Yoga, Pilates, and dance (Latin, ballet, hip hop, etc). Some require an investment in hand weights and things but that’s up to you. Spend anywhere from 10 to 90 minutes on the workout of your choice.
Clubs. You can burn calories hiking up stairs in stilettos or dancing, but moving things along… Get with a group or association with a mission to get you bodied. Walking around the mall, preparing for next season’s ‘run-a-thon’, or releasing your inner vixen, are activities that get you out the house and towards your goal.
Company. Park farther away from the door. Take the stairs, not the elevator. Make copies or use restrooms on another floor to step out of your comfort zone. For lunch, use your company’s gym if they have one. Instead of an email, walk over and talk to your coworker(s). It’s better for team-building anyway.
I don’t want to be the smallest I’ve been. Still, there’s room for improvement. This isn’t about fitting into ‘model’ society. DON’T watch the scale or obsess over sizes. DO consider fitness an investment in building a stronger, healthier version of you.
