For the past few weeks Award Season has been in full swing. The Golden Globes, Superbowl, Grammy’s, NBA All Star Weekend, The Oscars and other platforms where the greats have met. Stars prep years out and in some instances their entire career to be marked present at the gatherings of the crème de la crème in their respective industries. After mastering their craft – their ticket to stand on this stage, they can be found working towards other awards being issued for best bods and best dressed, as just showing up isn’t enough. They hope to further seal the deal by being the talk of the town.
It isn’t luck that gets them here. They allowed their talent to breathe, developed their craft, labored to find the open door, took a chance and then walked through it. At some point in time they were on their couch just like you and I have been watching the awards being received as well. Daydreaming of what it would feel like to be standing in the midst and fed the desire to find out.
Whether your dreams are to start your own business, publish a book, turn your passion for volunteering into a philanthropic venture or to lose 20 pounds, if this was your “award” season could you confidently say that you have demonstrated your greatest efforts or would you need more time to get a few things in order?
Would you be marked present? And have you worked on that little something extra to be the talk of the evening which in turn results in more connections and more open doors.
As we look at the newbies in any industry we at times hear them being referred to as an “Overnight Success”, and I struggle to believe that there is really such a thing. Could it be that we simply are not privy to the nights that sometimes grow into years of toiling and disappointments and rejection where they faced opponents of their dreams which said “no” as it is; “as you are we don’t think you have what it takes”. Each moment of rejection building the muscle of resilience while their hunger keeps them in hot pursuit.
The ones who soaked in someone else’s voice which told them that they’d never make it, chose the road well traveled and are presently living someone else’s dream for their life. Seated on a couch playing victim to the spectator sport of watching others accomplish their dreams and wandering if they too had a real shot at living their wildest dream.
Life will tell them, like it will tell you, you won’t know the answer on how far your potential can take you if you don’t try.
It’s time to be counted Present. Work your platform and tap into the depth of your greatness. You may burst wide open with new possibilities and come alive with ideas impregnated by hope.
In your “award season”, will you be ready and will your name be called?
