In the Kitchen: Punch Up Your Brunch

IMG_4302

Whenever there’s a special event at hand, anything worth celebrating, my husband always picks up a bottle of bubbles. I like that he refers to any sparkling wine as bubbles since the name is not only festive but includes everything from champagne to Proseco. While I’m a definite bubbles girl and I think champagne should be enjoyed on a regular basis, I readily enjoy a number of sparkling wines, as well.

Mother’s day is the perfect time to get the bubbles flowing and treat your mom to a festive beverage to go along with a luscious brunch. If you choose to serve champagne or Proseco, or a good sparkling wine, then there’s nothing to do but open the bottle and pour—of course, a fresh strawberry garnish or a perfect raspberry dropped in the bottom of the glass is a nice touch. However, if you’re looking for something with vivid visual and gustatory appeal, then consider making a pitcher of bubbly, white wine fruit cooler. Filled with a colorful variety of seasonal fruits, sparkling water and white wine, it’s a refreshing brunch cocktail and the best part is you can eat the fruit when you are finished with your drink.

Make sure to use a beautiful glass picture to showcase the fruit and choose short, wide-mouthed glasses to accommodate the fruit.

Fruity White Wine Cooler

Strawberries, hulled and quartered
1 orange, thinly sliced
1 cup small red grapes, or halved larger grapes
2 large sprigs of mint, washed and gently dried
3 12 ounce can seltzer water
1 bottle white wine

1. Place prepared fruit in glass pitcher.
2. Pour white wine over fruit and allow to ‘steep’ for 30 minute.
3. Pour seltzer water into pitcher and add mint.
4. Serve immediately.
