Breaking Free From The Bondage Of The Routine

changeWhen you look at your life and take stock of what has become part of an everyday routine, what do you think you simply cannot live without? And can you really not live beyond what is really there as just your comfort zone?

By the time this gets posted I would have eliminated meat, dairy, gluten, sugar and cable from my diet to join the growing list of things that are a part of my life via a routine. They have just been there, and maintain their presence based on a thought of ‘need’. My {happiest} existence depends on this to thrive. So I put myself on a 30 day test to shift things up.

This all got started with my social media shut down. I looked at the calendar and almost six months into the year evaluated how I was spending my time, my daily ‘addictions’ and my comfort zone. I must admit, I probably had to give more thought to deactivating my Facebook account, than I did to giving up sugar. Hard to believe but true. There was something so comforting and entertaining about logging on, engaging in all sorts of conversations and staying in touch with over 1300+ ‘friends’. But sometimes things get so comfortable you get lost in time and before you consciously notice a routine is formed. I sought to make a drastic shift from life as usual and the extremist within welcomed the challenge.

All of the above require adjustments but for a CNN and Oprah:LifeClass & MasterClass addict canceling cable is going to be life changing indeed. This completely changes my routine of waking-up, turning on the news, returning home after work…turning on the news, write while watching the news. Go to bed. Wake-up and start again. All but Sunday evenings where OWN becomes the channel of choice. This routine of news and all things Oprah has been in existence for years as has been the things I eat on a daily basis, down the order. They’re all great options, but I have limited myself, in my food, my choices, in how I spend my time by narrowing it down to a routine. It’s time to make a few changes.

This month, I unplug. No doubt I’m sure my initial withdrawal will have me grab my Ipad early every morning and head over to cnn.com and find creative ways to watch a few episodes of LifeClass & MasterClass, but I’m so looking forward to tuning into my own classes and what this shift from the way things have to be to what will be learned from the way things can be. Shaking things up even just a little and creating a shift in my thinking, my eating and how I invest my time and with whom.

Change I’ve long considered to be a very dear friend.
