Distant Lovers … so many miles away

When it comes to love and I mean true, down to the bone, your heart is about to jump out of your chest when you hear his name kind of love. How far would you travel to be with the one that you love? Just how far is too far? Or maybe there isn’t such a thing as too far for some women. Maybe, just maybe, Diana Ross was right when she said “Baby there ain’t no mountain high enough, ain’t no valley low enough, ain’t no river wild enough, to keep me from getting to you.” Does that ring true for you or is distance a deal breaker for you and you’d rather listen to Tina Turner who asked the infamous question, “What’s love got to do with it?”

Some people feel that with all of today’s technology that distance should not play a factor at all in whether you are to be together with someone or not. With unlimited cell phone minutes, texting, camcorders, computers, web cams, email, Skype, etc., the only thing that is not possible with technology is being able to actually reach out and touch your loved one. And that’s where the problem comes in for me; I’m a touchy, feely, want to cuddle type of woman. I love hugs and kisses. I’ve tried long distance relationships but they never seem to work for me. Now I’m not saying that they are impossible, not at all, but relationships are hard to maintain even under the best of circumstances and when you throw in a few hundred or thousand miles of distance between the two of you, sometimes, you can create the perfect storm. Doubt starts to rain down on you. Insecurity knocks against your bedroom window making sounds as if hail was hitting up against it. The constant whisper of your friends voices resonate loudly in your ears, speaking of his alleged infidelities, until it’s like thunder pounding in your head. Jealousy runs through your body as if you’d been struck by a bolt of lightning. Soon you find yourself drowning in a sea of suspicion, real or imagined, the feelings are still there and you’re struggling to stay afloat in a lifeboat built for two, but there’s only you and you alone. Then the words of Jennifer Hudson begin to whisper in your ear, “Where you at?”

Okay, let’s flip the coin. What’s on the other side? There are also some good things that can come from a long distance relationship. First thing that comes to my mind is the fact that you are able to spend enough time away from each other to make you really appreciate the time that you do get to spend together. Doesn’t absence make the heart grow fonder? Well, anyway, that’s what “they” say. If you’re the type of person who likes their “alone” time then here’s your chance to have more than enough of it. If you like to travel and maybe take weekend getaways that would be great too. Now that’s a definite plus. Here’s your chance. Maybe spend some time at a quaint out of the way Bed and Breakfast. Keep the romance alive. And sometimes the long distance may even keep arguing to a minimum because you’re so happy to see one another that you don’t want to ruin it for any reason. Hopefully, it would keep you from sweatin’ the small stuff and put more focus on enjoying each other’s company for however long of period of time you have together at any given moment.

When all is said and done, the bottom line is long distance relationships has its pros and cons just like any other relationship. The distance is just another factor and it’s up to the two individuals involved whether they want to make it a “non-MF’ing factor” or not. Alright, I’m out, just in case somebody tries to swing on me. LoL
