One of my favorite trends this summer is pleated skirts. A style that was prominent during one of my favorite decades, pleats are reminiscent of the ever so hip 1970s. Every time I come across a beautiful pleated skirt, I think of my unbelievably fashionable mother, who in the 70s wore everything from high-waisted denim jeans to long-sleeved cocktail dresses, images that never escape my head as a tenacious fashionista myself.
After pleats gracing the Spring and Summer 2011 runways of fabulous collections from designers like Chloe, Vera Wang and Jill Stuart, ladies have been donning these lovely creased clothes all over the country.
Now as a larger woman, I understand that pleats may not necessarily be the most flattering. But I encourage any and every woman to take risks and do the unexpected. You never know, you may find a surprising item that will knock people’s socks off!
Try a pleated skirt with a simple V-neck T-shirt or soft button up blouse and tie it all together with a thin belt. Or add a thicker belt, blazer or soft cardigan to a more flattering pleated dress.
Here are some lovely peices from ASOS Curve, who happens to have some of the hottest pleats around for us thick chicks.
