Pretty In Pastels for Spring

Wearing the brightest colors on the spectrum is so 2011. Update your look in 2012 by wearing the hottest trend: pastels. One thing to keep in mind when searching for a piece (or 5) to step out in this spring is that most pastels pop against medium and dark skin tones. However, the fairer-skinned fashionistas should be careful not to wear colors that are too close to their skin tones (such as really pale pinks, peaches, and light yellows) which can make you look washed out.  From the frocks of  stars like Octavia Spencer, Tilda Swinton, and Jessica Alba to the designs of 3.1 Philip Lim, Carolina Herrea, Louis Vuitton, and Yves Saint Laurent  (all pictured below)– pale pinks, blues, and lavenders are ruling the red carpet this awards season and were splashed all over runways.

Jessica Alba glows in a pale purple gown.

Tilda Swinton fearlessly rocks light blue at the Golden Globes.

Don’t be afraid to try color blocking or mix & match prints (you can find tips on that here) when wearing pastels.  Spring is around the corner so go ahead and add a little celebrity style to your wardrobe and bring the catwalk to your sidewalk with the pieces below.

  1. Being of a darker complexion myself, I can appreciate the appeal of pastels. I am particularly fond of the blazer look being sported by the model.

  2. Me too! I love that look. Everything about it is on point. Although when it gets hot those booties might need to get traded in for an opentoe look.

I was on dorothyperkins.com and I saw a ivory & black tuxedo jacket that is just dying to be layered over a cute pastel top. I had to use all of my willpower to resist purchasing it (along a few other dresses).
